We had a GREAT Ag Club meeting today! We are planning for an exciting and fun-filled May so be ready to save some dates.
On Saturday, May 3, we will be doing a Livestock Field Day for the 4-H council at the West Plains Fairgrounds. Katie Morris is our project manager for this event and will be giving us more details at our meeting next week.
On Friday, May 9, we will be taking a trip to our Springfield campus for a tour of the Darr School of Agriculture. Dr. Anson Elliott and Mr. Jim Bellis will show us around the main campus buildings including Karls Hall, Temple Hall and the Darr Agricultural Center. Student Ambassadors will give us a tour of the main campus as well. That evening we will attend the Agriculture Forum banquet hosted by the Darr School of Agriculture at the Bond Center. Senator Roy Blunt, Representative Billy Long and the president of the Missouri Farm Bureau will be in attendance. The West Plains Agriculture Department will be recognized at the event also.
We will leave the West Plains campus from the Lybyer north parking lot at 10:00 a.m. and will stop for lunch when we get to Springfield.
The dress for the banquet is professional (men – button up shirt with collar (tie preferably) and dress pants; women – dress slacks and blouse or skirt and blouse). We will have a place on campus in Springfield to change clothes so it would be a good idea to wear comfortable walking shoes for the tour part of the day and change into your dress clothes for the banquet.
The cost of the dinner at the banquet is $5.00 so you will need that and whatever lunch money you wish to bring.
We will be stopping by Bass Pro Shops for an hour or so between the tour and the banquet.
We will be back to West Plains between 10:00 – 11:00 p.m.
Please RSVP via email to either Jill or Linda by May 1, so we can get an idea of how many are going. We have two university vans reserved (or you may take your own vehicle if you prefer).
Also, save the date for May 16th for the Ag Club sponsored float trip — more details to follow.
Our next meeting will be next Tuesday, April 15th at 12:30 in T205.
We did have an Ag Club meeting this morning with just a few members. Dr. Risner was unable to attend due to an emergency with one of the horses. She sends her apologies.
We talked about having the Ag Club represented at the Grizzly game and mini-Red Carpet Day on Feb. 22. Cody volunteered to talk since he will be there in an ambassador capacity anyway. He needs pictures of agricultural activities to create the poster for the event. These can be either electronic (digital) or actual paper photographs.
We also need to fill the open Treasurer seat to replace Jonathan.
There is a volunteer opportunity at the West Plains Animal Shelter.
We need to begin working on the spring workshops as soon as possible.
So, with these items in mind, let’s plan to meet next Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 8:30 am in Lybyer 202.
I will send out an email reminder on Monday.
The next Ag Club meeting will be Tuesday, October 15th at 8:30 a.m. in Lybyer 211. We will be discussing and finalizing plans for the hayride and ideas for future activities.

Remember you don’t have to be attending meetings to be a member. We will communicate via email, Blackboard and this blog so please consider yourself a member!!

There will be an Ag Club meeting this at 8:30 AM, Thursday, September 19th in Lybyer 103. We will be deciding on a club T-shirt design and finalizing plans for our booth at the upcoming Career Fair on September 26th.
The Missouri State-West Plains AG Club will hold its organizational meeting at 8:30 AM, Tuesday, September 3, in Lybyer T213.
We will discuss activities that we can do as a club such as field trips, recreational activities (hay ride/bonfire) and service/volunteer activities.
Club officer elections will be held at the second meeting so this will be an opportunity to get acquainted and meet other students who are interested in agriculture. Everyone is welcome! You do not have to be enrolled in an Ag class. For more information contact Linda Risner at 417-274-1917 or LindaRisner@MissouriState.edu.
