  • Project Purpose:   According to the Feeding America organization, Howell county has over 7000 people that are classified as food insecure.  In the West Plains area K-8 schools there are over 63% of our children on the Free and Reduced Lunch Program and in one rural school nearly 90% of the children participate in this program.  Over 1,300 children in Howell County go hungry each weekend.  The MSU-WP Let’s Can Hunger project benefits two local organizations:  West Plains Bridges Program and the Rotary Backpack Program.
  • Project Description:   A food drive will be held in the Fall 2014 semester, with a contest between students and faculty/staff to determine which group can donate the most food (as determined by item count.)
  • Special Instructions:  All types of food is accepted for the Bridges Program.  Any of the following food is accepted for the Rotary Backpack program:
    – Hormel Completes for Kida (Mac & Beef, Spaghetti & Meatballs and Pasta  & Chicken
    – Campbell’s Soup at Hand (Vegetable Beef and Chicken Noodle)
    – Campbell’s Microwaveable Soup Bowl (15.4 oz)
    – Horizons Organic Milk 1%
    – Mac & Cheese Bowls
    – Hamburger Helper microwavable bowl
    – Chef Boyardee (7.5 oz bowl – Beefaroni, Spaghetti & Meatballs, Beef Ravioli, Mini Micro Beef Ravioli)

    Island Orchard All Natural Juice (6.75 oz – Grape, Applie, Fruit Punch)
    – Kellogg’s Cereal (individual servings)
    – Great Value Applesauce (Plain and cinnamon)
